About Us

The guiding light.

It all started when a group of youths, already holding spiritual meetings on a weekly basis, went off for a pilgrim to the 15th  world youth day in Rome in the year of the jubilee. The spiritual effectiveness that touched them gave them motivation to look forward with hope and courage, in order not to let this experience be selfishly kept solely to them, they decided to form the guiding light group.  A youth group comprising of about 60 members that still meet once every week for spiritual meetings split in group ages ranging from sixth grade to the age of 21 and over. These meetings are the breath of life to the group, spiritual formation is highly important; it is what keeps us motivated, what keeps us together as one. The guiding light group gives several services to the church especially In the Nazzarenu community.

Surly The live crib is now something that marks our yearly activities in our calendar.  It has gained a renowned fame for its originality and effectiveness.  The idea came when the group decided to give a more Christian outlook of what really made Christmas day and what it really means to us.  Materialism has took over most of the Christian liturgical festivities to turn them into an opportunity that truly doesn’t reflect our believes,  for that reason the live crib was organised the fist one in the year 2000 and it is still an attraction that is not to be missed yearly to  this year.

Cardinal George Pell, Archbishop of Sydney said ‘When elected to the papacy Pope John Paul II wanted To strengthen the practice of going on pilgrimage, he succeeded and the WYD’s are a phenomenal example’.

Five years on the group decided to go on its second pilgrimage to participate in the 20th  world youth day, this time in cologne, Germany. With the theme ‘we have come to worship him’ and truly, a nationwide crowd of over 1.2 million youths, were doing so on the morning of the 20th of august 2005 while celebrating mass with his holiness Pope Benedict XVI. Truly these are experiences that highly motivate our group, the sense of peace and spiritual feelings remain intact in our harts forever.

Music is what keeps the liturgy alive, music revives the soul it is an essential part of our weekly eucharistic celebration. That is why the group has decided to organize a youth choir in order to participate in youth masses and other services consign to it from week to week.

Today the group still seeks to organise social activities with the aim of helping others in need. Our goal is to be of assistance to others in reviving the spirit of faith, hope and love for one and others.
